Movie Mondays

This is actually over a span of a month,
and next Monday there won't be
nearly this many.

"Depressed over his breakup with girlfriend Desiree,
Zia slits his wrists, only to find himself sent to
a bleak corner of the afterlife reserved for
those who kill themselves in Goran Dukic's dark comic fantasy.
When he learns that Desiree also commits suicide, he's joined by a pair
of fellow lost souls on a quest to find her and see if love
and happiness can exist even in death."

Genre: Indie romance, Dark comedy
Stars: Four

This movie was so imaginative.
The idea of just going to hell when you kill
yourself is painfully boring.
In Wristcutters, as a punishment,
you basically have to live in a shittier
version of life.
Everything is grey, the jobs are worse,
the people are all messed up,
and it is impossible to smile.
Of course, this wouldn't be a romance
movie if there wasn't a love story,
but it's not at all cheesy and guys can definitely
watch it without complaining.
Over all : Must see

A young American Jewish man begins an exhausting quest
aided by a naïve Ukranian translator to find the righteous gentile
woman who saved his grandfather when his small Ukranian village
(along with most of the populace) was obliterated during the Nazi invasion
of Russia in 1941. Based on the novel by Jonathan Safran Foer.

Genre: Drama based on literature
Stars: Four

Great movie.
It was interesting mixed with
comedy and emotion.
Not a lot of movies can make me laugh
out loud the first half and be tearing up
the second half.
The directing was exceptional and it was
a beautiful interpretation of a dark time in
history.
Over all: A movie you have to be in the mood
for, but definitely watch it.

When Mr. Fox's nightly raids on three nearby farms
raise the ire of the selfish farmers,
he must outwit the men's increasingly outrageous plans to
catch him in this animated adaptation of the Roald Dahl book.
As the farmers' schemes take a toll on his hungry family,
Mr. Fox must find a new way to get his paws on the bounty.

Genre: Family based on literature
Stars: Five

Fantastic Mr. Fox was to say the least
"fantastic".
It was so funny and uplifting.
There really isn't too much to say except
that everyone should see this movie.

When a traveling carnival sets up shop in town,
Justin discovers the girl of his dreams, a shrewd carnie named Galaxy.
But to win over this sexy con artist's heart, Justin must get his life
in order and deal with her scary boyfriend, Reggie.

Genre: Indie romance, Comedy
Stars: Three

I feel like maybe if I watch this movie again
I would like it a lot better the second time.
It was a nice romantic comedy but I think
it missed it's potential a little bit.
Over all: Good if there's nothing else on.

In this comedic fantasy, science has facilitated the search for a soul mate
via biotechnological implants that count down to the moment
one is supposed to meet his or her match.
But Oona is worried: She's nearly 30, and her TiMER isn't ticking yet.
Will her dream guy get snatched up by someone else?

Genre: Indie romance, Comedy, Fantasy

Such a different spin on love.
Basically you can go into a store
that looks similar to a cell phone store and
get a timer installed on your wrist that will tell
you the exact moment you meet your soul
mate.
But your soul mate also has to have a timer.
If they don't, your timer stays blank until they
purchase their own.
This movie is what I love about indie romantic
comedies.
Over all: Great for girls night in.

"Psychomania" is a pre-punk, British horror cult classic featuring trashy violence,
suburban witchcraft and some amazing motorcycle stunt sequences.
Led by Tom, The Living Dead motorcycle gang wreaks
havoc in their small English town. But Tom wants more:
Namely, to kill himself and return from the dead, with the help of a
frog-worshipping cult and his seance-conducting mother.
He's in for quite a ride!

Genre: Zombies, Cult horror
Stars: Two...if that

I really only rented this for Eric and his love for
old horror movies.
It was just what you expected from a cheesy 60's
flick.
I fell asleep.
So unless you have a taste for these kinds
of movies like my man friend,
don't watch this movie.
